2022 PROCESS OF AOA APPLICATION

Initial application to apply for Orthopaedic Training is through Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), followed by subsequent application to the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA)

ROYAL AUSTRALASIAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS APPLICATION

Generic Eligibility Requirements

For all eligibility requirements must be met at the time of registrations for all surgical specialities

  • Permanent residency or citizenship of Australia or New Zealand

  • Medical Registration

  • Successful completion of the RACS specific Hand Hygiene Learning Modules from the National Hand Hygiene Initiative

  • Completion of the RACS Operating with Respect eModule

  • Successful completion of the Generic Surgical Sciences Exam (GSSE)

AUSTRALIAN ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION APPLICATION

Specialty Specific Eligibility Criteria

  • Completion of at least 26 working weeks of orthopaedic surgical experience within the last two (2) years at PGY3 level or higher

  • Successful completion of the Generic Surgical Sciences Exam (GSSE)

  • Successful completion of a state-licenced Radiation Safety Course

Curriculum Vitae

Candidates must achieve a minimum score of six (6) points on the CV in order to progress to the next stage of Selection. The components scored are:

  • Surgical and Medical Experience

    • Maximum 4 points

  • Skills Courses

    • Maximum 3 points

  • Higher Education Qualifications

    • Maximum 3 points

  • Research Presentation

    • Maximum 2 points

  • Research Publications

    • Maximum 4 points
